Want to Be Slim; Is There an Herbal Way to Do It?

Friday, September 18th, 2009

So you want to lose a few pounds (and maybe a lot of them), but you need a little help doing so. Is there an herbal way to get slim?

Well, yes and no. There are certainly herbs out there that can help you get and stay slim, but they can’t do it all by themselves, at least not if you want to be healthy. You CAN use herbs to help you lose weight, but at the same, come you’re going to have to come along for the ride and change your own eating habits and lifestyle to support that weight loss so that it stays off and you stay healthy.

Here’s what may be going on. If you’ve got a significant amount weight you can’t seem to lose even though you seem to be doing everything right, part of the reason you have that fat may be because your liver has gotten overwhelmed; this in turn can lead to fat storage, especially in the abdominal area.

So, get your liver up and functioning again, and you should see that belly fat begin to drop off. And, one of the ways you can help your liver begin to function again is to detoxify (slowly and safely) with the use of certain herbs. However — and this is a big “however” — it’s not magic, and you have to change your lifestyle even as you use those certain herbs so that the detoxification you do is going to do some good. In other words, if you’re eating poorly now, you’re not going to change much of anything if you simply take herbs to try to drop pounds that your eating habits acquired for you in the first place.

Which herbs work to help you with fat loss?

Burdock root, dandelion, and alfalfa can be great ways to detoxify and help your liver get up and functioning again so that you lose that belly fat. Stinging nettles, too, is another great herb that may help you do this. Check with your doctor, though, to make sure that you can take these herbs and that they don’t counteract or otherwise negatively interact with any drugs you’re taking or any conditions you may have.

All of these herbs are readily available over the counter, and most often are used effectively if you take them as tea. For that, you simply prepare the herbs as label instructions tell you to, and drink the tea a couple of times a day. You should notice that you may have to go to the bathroom more often, and this is normal. These herbs are mildly diuretic and will help you get rid of excess water, and they are also detoxifying, which means you body may be working to expel toxins because of them. This, in turn, may make you go to the bathroom more often for a few days while your body detoxifies.

Eating right and excising counts, too

Now, this is something that any good fat loss program is going to have. You have to eat right and you have to exercise. You’re not doing your body any favors (including with fat loss) if you work on getting your liver functioning right and dropping the fat, only to keep eating poorly so that you’re basically sabotaging yourself. So change your diet to one that’s full of healthy foods that are going to fuel you and keep you going, and begin a modest exercise program to get your metabolism pumping, too.

So again, these “fat loss” herbs can certainly help you drop that extra fat, as long as you do everything else right, too. That said, you should see those pounds begin a drop-off once you start on your new program and your new life.
